A college girl trying to keep my sanity by virtually hoarding things that i love. |
First of all, let me say how proud I am of myself for doing all 30 days in a row!
For those who are unfamiliar, the 30 Day Shred is Jillian Michaels’s 3-level circuit training program in which you spend 10 days on each successively harder level. 3x10 = 30 days total (obvs). Along with a dynamic stretching/cardio warmup and a static stretching session at the end, it incorporates three circuits of 3 minutes of strength, 2 minutes cardio, and 1 minute abs.

MY DAILY NUTRITION PROGRAM (from SparkPeople <3)
I believe that Jillian has a nutrition program that goes with it…but I don’t know what it is. This is what I followed every single day (exception - didn’t track 4th of July since my food came from tailgating. but I still found time to do the Shred!)
1200-1550 calories (averaged 1365)
27-60 g fats (averaged 40)
135-252 g carbohydrates (averaged 183)
60-136 g protein (averaged 78)

My personal thoughts: The ten days of level 1 took forever. However, Levels 2 and 3 soared by. If you do it properly, your thighs and arms will be sore for 30 days straight - but my kickass new quads and biceps are not complaining. I used 5 lb weights but water bottles when I couldn’t handle the 5s. In terms of difficulty, Level 3 is the hardest but level 2 will feel like the hardest. NOT KIDDING WHEN I SAY THIS: She will kick your butt and you will sweat, burn, probably throw a few profanities her way….but you will be thankful. One more thing…use a blanket to prevent rug burn on your elbows and knees during level 3!

Lastly, I heard you can get the DVDs really cheap at Target, but why go to Target when they are on Youtube?

Hopefully this inspires somebody to try the Shred! I highly encourage it. I hated Jillian with every fiber of my being for each of those 27 minute sessions, but loved her afterwards. It’s less than 30 minutes/day! What do you have to lose?
I think I’m going to try Insanity next, but I think I will definitely be incorporating the Shred into my regular weekly fitness regimen in the future.
